Thantris & Priests

The spiritual sanctity of Shree Ayyappa Swamy Temple is carefully upheld by its esteemed Thantri and dedicated resident priest. Together, they guide the temple's rituals and ceremonies, ensuring that every offering, prayer, and celebration is conducted with the utmost reverence and adherence to tradition. This page offers insight into the roles and contributions of these respected figures.

Thantri Brahmashree Kantararu Rajeevaru

At the heart of the temple's history is Thantri Brahmashree Kantararu Rajeevaru, the revered chief priest of the Sabarimala Temple in Kerala. Hailing from the ancient Thazhamon Madom, his lineage is deeply rooted in the traditions of Lord Ayyappa worship. It is believed that Thazhamon Madom was blessed by Lord Parasurama himself, who granted them the authority to oversee the Sabarimala Temple. This esteemed legacy has been passed down through generations, and Brahmashree Kantararu Rajeevaru carries forward this sacred responsibility with great honour and dedication.

The role of Thantri Brahmashree Kantararu Rajeevaru in the establishment of Shree Ayyappa Swamy Temple is profound. His involvement began during the temple's consecration, when he laid the foundation stone, or Adhara Sila, on 28 August 2003. Years later, on 9 March 2008, he returned to perform the Prana Prathista, the sacred consecration ceremony, imbuing the idols and the temple grounds with divine energy. His blessing bestowed spiritual life upon the temple, transforming it into a sacred space where devotees could connect with Lord Ayyappa.

Since the temple's consecration, Thantri Brahmashree Kantararu Rajeevaru visits once a year, usually during the anniversary of the Prana Prathista in March, to perform the annual rituals that maintain the temple's spiritual sanctity. His annual visit is a highly anticipated event for devotees, as it brings an opportunity to receive the blessings of the Thantri and participate in the special poojas he conducts. His presence reinforces the temple's connection to Sabarimala, honouring a tradition that has spanned centuries.

Resident Priest – Madhav Bhatt

Madhav Bhatt, the resident priest at Shree Ayyappa Swamy Temple, brings dedication and experience to the daily rituals and ceremonies. Based in Movvar Mana, Kasaragod, Kerala, he has been serving the Ayyappa temple community for the past four years. Before joining our temple, he contributed his knowledge and devotion at the Agalpadi Temple in Kasaragod. Madhav Bhatt’s commitment to traditional practices and his approachable nature make him a valued figure in our temple community, ensuring that each ritual is performed with reverence and care, bringing peace and blessings to all who visit.

Through daily poojas, abhishekams, and other offerings, he maintains an environment where devotees can find peace, seek guidance, and experience spiritual growth. Madhav Bhatt's approachable nature allows devotees to feel connected to the temple's spiritual life, fostering a sense of closeness and reverence among all who visit.

The Sacred Connection Between Thantri and Resident Priest

The collaborative efforts of Thantri Brahmashree Kantararu Rajeevaru and Madhav Bhatt uphold the sacred traditions of Shree Ayyappa Swamy Temple. While the Thantri's annual visit brings a unique spiritual charge, revitalising the temple's energy, the resident priest's daily presence keeps the temple's sanctity alive throughout the year. This balance of annual and daily rituals allows devotees to experience a full spectrum of spiritual practices, from grand ceremonies led by the Thantri to intimate, personal poojas conducted by the resident priest.

The legacy of Thantri Brahmashree Kantararu Rajeevaru, with his unparalleled connection to Sabarimala, combined with Madhav Bhatt's commitment to the temple's daily activities, creates a rich and fulfilling spiritual experience for all. Together, they embody the essence of Shree Ayyappa Swamy Temple's mission, ensuring that every visit to the temple offers an opportunity for divine connection, peace, and blessings.

As the temple continues to grow, the contributions of these two spiritual leaders remain vital, bridging past traditions with the present and future needs of the community. Their combined presence honours the temple's founding vision and strengthens the faith of all who come to worship.
